Dahab is the easiest Sinai escape from Sharm: close enough for a day trip, different enough to feel like a second holiday. The town is relaxed, the seafront promenade is lined with cafés, and its best-known spots — the Blue Hole, the Lighthouse reef and the Lagoon — are famous far beyond Egypt. A private Sharm El Sheikh to Dahab transfer gets you there door to door, without bus stations or bargaining.

The road to Dahab: what you’ll see
Leaving Sharm, the road runs north past the airport and then turns inland. Within minutes the resort skyline is gone and you’re driving through wide desert valleys between bare, red-brown granite mountains — one of the most striking short drives in Sinai. Toward the end, the road winds down to the coast, and the deep blue of the Gulf of Aqaba appears ahead as you reach Dahab.
Like every road in Sinai, this one has security checkpoints. They are routine: the driver slows down, officers may glance into the car or ask for passports, and you carry on. Keep your passport with you rather than in the hotel safe. Want a break? Ask the driver to pull over for a coffee or a mountain photo — on a private transfer, the stops are your call.
Private transfer vs bus vs shared taxi to Dahab
To be fair, there are three ways to make this trip:
- Public bus: the cheapest per seat. You travel on a fixed timetable from station to station, so you still need to get to the bus station in Sharm and from the station in Dahab to your hotel. Fine for solo travelers with light bags.
- Shared taxi or microbus: inexpensive, but it usually leaves when it’s full, may stop for other passengers and has limited room for luggage. Comfort varies a lot.
- Private transfer: door to door, at the time you choose, with only your group in the car, air conditioning, space for bags and stops on request. It costs more than a bus seat, but for couples with luggage, families and groups sharing the car, it’s usually the most practical choice.
Our Sharm El Sheikh to Dahab guide goes into more detail on each option.
One-way, return or a Dahab day trip
- One-way: moving hotels from Sharm to Dahab? We load the luggage at your Sharm hotel and unload it at your Dahab hotel or camp.
- Return: book both legs together, with the date and time of the trip back set for the end of your stay.
- Day trip: a popular option. Leave in the morning, snorkel at the Lighthouse, have lunch on the promenade or see the Blue Hole, and ride back in the late afternoon. Agree the pick-up time and place with your driver before you head off.
If you’d like the same car and driver with you all day, book our private driver service by the hour or day instead. Landing at SSH and heading straight to Dahab? We can start your trip with meet & greet at Sharm El Sheikh airport.
Tip: If you want Red Sea reefs without the road trip, our Ras Mohammed and White Island boat trip leaves from a Sharm marina and includes three snorkeling stops.
