Nuweiba is quieter than Dahab and very different from Sharm: a small coastal town on the Gulf of Aqaba, a ferry port, and a long shoreline of low-key beach camps with mountains rising behind. Travelers come for three main reasons — to catch the ferry to Aqaba in Jordan, to switch off for a few days in a camp, or to explore the Colored Canyon nearby. A private Sharm El Sheikh to Nuweiba transfer covers all three, door to door.
Sharm El Sheikh to Nuweiba: distance and route
| Detail | Sharm El Sheikh → Nuweiba |
|---|---|
| Distance | about 170 km |
| Drive time | roughly 2.5 hours |
| Route | north through the mountains via the Dahab area, then down to the coast |
| Checkpoints | yes, keep your passport handy |
The drive is classic South Sinai: mountain passes and wide sandy wadis for most of the way, before the road drops down to the sea at Nuweiba. As on every Sinai road, there are security checkpoints, so keep your passport in your day bag. Ask the driver if you’d like to stop for a photo or a coffee on the way.
Nuweiba port and the ferry to Aqaba
If you’re crossing to Jordan by sea, Nuweiba port is where the ferry to Aqaba departs. Ferry schedules can change, so confirm your sailing and tickets before you travel, and check the current entry rules for your nationality. Send us your sailing time and we’ll plan the pick-up in Sharm so you reach the port with a comfortable margin. Port formalities take time, and waiting at the terminal is much better than watching the ferry leave.
Beach camps and the Colored Canyon area
Nuweiba’s camps are the opposite of a big resort: simple, quiet places right by the sea, popular with travelers who want a few slow days. We drop you at your camp’s entrance, or at the meeting point your camp gives you.
Heading for the Colored Canyon? Tell us where your camp or local guide is meeting you and we’ll take you there. Wear good walking shoes, carry plenty of water and, in summer, plan your visit for the cooler part of the day.
Private transfer vs bus vs shared taxi
- Bus: the cheapest way, running on its own timetable from station to station. If your ferry time or camp check-in doesn’t line up with the bus, you wait.
- Shared taxi: negotiable on price but not on timing, since it leaves when it’s full, and reaching a camp along the coast from the drop-off point can be awkward.
- Private transfer: leaves Sharm when it suits your ferry or check-in and goes straight to the port, camp or meeting point, with no carrying luggage between stations. Best for families, groups and anyone on a timetable.
Return trips and one-day round trips
Book the way back at the same time, or message us during your stay with your date. A one-day round trip from Sharm also works well: at about 2.5 hours each way, there is time for a long lunch and a swim before the drive home. Want the driver with you all day? Our private driver service is made for that.
Going further north? Nuweiba is on the way to Taba — see our Sharm El Sheikh to Taba transfer. Prefer somewhere closer? Dahab is only about 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 from Sharm. And if you want the desert without the long drive, try our desert safari in Sharm El Sheikh.
